San Geronimo Valley

The San Geronimo Valley includes the charming towns of Woodacre, Lagunitas and Forest Knolls.

Welcome to the San Geronimo Valley

The San Geronimo Valley straddles Sir Francis Drake Boulevard for ten miles, extending from just past the town of Fairfax out to West Marin. It includes the small and charming communities of Woodacre, Lagunitas and Forest Knolls.  As you drive through the valley, you'll be struck by the gorgeous scenery and stunning beauty of the area.  Wooded and golden hills leapfrogging one another where ever the eye turns.  The San Geronimo creek runs parallel to Sir Francis Drake Blvd, meandering though each of the communities and is a protected spawning ground for both coho and steelhead salmon.  The rural nature of the area means wildlife is abundant and you are likely to see low-flying hawks, flocks of turkey's and maybe even a bobcat or coyote as you pass through.

Many people travel to the San Geronimo Valley to visit the Spirit Rock Meditation Center, a 412-acre mecca of compassion and mindfulness whose classes and lectures attract folks from around the world.

For less mystic attractions, there are a number of places to check out.  Stella Cucina in Lagunitas is a ten-table restaurant, tucked in next to Lagunitas Grocery on Sir Francis Drake, offering dishes made with organic ingredients from local purveyors.  The Two Bird Cafe at the Valley Inn is also a nice place to dine, either on the deck overlooking the creek or inside by the fire and you can also stay in one of the 4 rooms here.  For snacks and more causal lunch items, the Woodacre Market and Deli and the Lagunitas Grocery both offer delicious salads and sandwiches.  If it's a libation you're looking for, it’s doubtful you'll find a more authentic dive bar anywhere in Marin than the Papermill Creek Saloon in nearby Forest Knolls.  If you are looking for hiking options, Roy’s Redwoods, a 293-acre grove of bay and redwood trees that’s laced with scenic trails (George Lucas’s Ewok Adventure was filmed there) is as good a place to go as any.  If horse riding is your thing, don't miss Dickson Ranch, a riding school and stables off San Geronimo Valley Road.

Real Estate in the San G Valley as locals refer to it, varies widely.  It is an eclectic mix of in-town bungalows and ranch style homes, to forest dwellings under the Redwood canopy, to pastoral ranch like properties on large lots and more traditional homes dotting the hillsides with gorgeous valley views.

If you are looking for stunningly gorgeous area that feels away from it all, yet is not too remote, the San Geronimo Valley may be the place for you.
