Novato is located at the northen tip of Marin County and is surrounded by thousands of acres of open space, teeming wetlands and rolling hills.  Novato has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s, which is still visible today in some of its architecture and landmarks around town such as the Olompali State Historic Park, which showcases the history of the Miwok people who once inhabited the area.

Novato is known for its natural beauty, some of the hottest summer weather in Marin and various outdoor amenities. The town is situated near several state and regional parks, including the Mount Burdell Open Space Preserve and the Stafford Lake Park.  The town also has several community parks and a few golf courses, both public and private. 

Novato features multiple shopping districts that range from the big box Vintage Oaks Shopping Center to the Historic Old Town along Grant Ave which features quaint boutiques, many eateries and a true small town vibe. 

Novato is also a community that values arts and culture.  The town is home to several art galleries and studios, as well as the Novato Theater Company, which hosts a variety of plays and musical performances throughout the year.  The town also has a farmers' market every Tuesday, where residents can purchase fresh produce, flowers, and artisanal goods.  One of the most beloved community events in Novato is the annual Art and Wine Festival, which takes place in late June. This event features live music, food vendors, and a variety of arts and crafts booths.
